How much does a kitchen cost?
This is perhaps the most common question we’re asked by prospective clients. A new kitchen is a big investment, and for many people, it’s an investment they’re making for the first time.
You can’t even begin the design process without a clear idea of what the finished job could cost you - and as designers, we need to understand what the budget for your project is so that we can show you the most cost-effective options available.
From the very first design consultation, we will discuss budget ideas with you and suggest options if you don’t have ideas in mind. Once we understand your dream look, functional requirements, and project budget - we work to design and specify a kitchen that suits you and your family's needs perfectly and comes at or under your budget.

Our top things to consider when budgeting for a kitchen
1) Location
Where in your home will the kitchen be?
You may want to remove your existing kitchen and install a new one in the same room, you may want to convert two rooms into an open-plan kitchen-diner, or even build an extension.
Building works can add significantly to the cost of the project, so if you want us to handle this aspect of the project as well, we will need to understand what work is needed, and budget accordingly.
2) Supply and Installation or Supply Only?
Are we pricing to design and supply the kitchen for you to arrange fitting - or do you want us to install the kitchen for you as well?
Some clients have tradespeople they have used previously and would like to use again, some want to install the kitchen themselves. The work needed will also influence the budget. Will services such as gas or plumbing need to be moved? Does the room need to be plastered?
We will happily accommodate supply-only orders, or we can manage the complete installation for you, so you don’t have to worry about anything but putting your feet up and waiting for your new kitchen to be completed.
3) Cabinets & Doors
The cabinets are almost always the most expensive part of the kitchen goods, and can vary massively in price cost depending on the specification - from off-the-shelf ranges with a range of standard sizes, to fully bespoke custom-sized cabinets.
The most important thing to start with when choosing kitchen cabinets is to decide on the look you want first. Then we work with your budget to select the right cabinets to give you exactly the look you desire.
4) Worksurfaces
If you’ve spent any time shopping for kitchens you’ll have seen how many different types of kitchen worksurfaces there are, and how much the prices vary. A statement granite worktop can cost thousands of pounds, whereas a laminate surface for the same kitchen could be a few hundred. As with the cabinets, we use our experience to guide you to the perfect balance between look, function, and budget. You can also have matching upstands and splashbacks, downturned end panels, and many other options.
5) Appliances
You’ll want to make sure that you have a good idea of what you need and want from your appliances, and to factor appliance costs into the budget from the first stage. You don’t want to spend a load of money on your kitchen and not be able to actually cook the way you want to! We supply a wide range of appliances from all different brands and will discuss your functional and stylistic requirements from our first consultation to make sure your kitchen works perfectly for you.
6) Other Things to Consider
This is far from an exhaustive list, and there are an almost unlimited number of things that could be done as part of your kitchen project and would need to be included in the budget. Some things to consider in addition to the elements listed above are; Flooring, Lighting, Tiling, Decorating, Electrical Accessories, Heating and Radiators, Pull-Out Storage, etc.
At Ansley Brown Interiors we make achieving your dream kitchen as simple as possible, and a big part of that is helping you develop a realistic project budget as early as possible, so you know what your options are and exactly what you’re getting for your money.
